The brand new Hudson is now open for summer leasing.
If I were to sum up this River North luxury apartment in a single word, it would be “pampered”. I love what the Onni developers have done to the once vacant corner of Hudson and Chicago Avenue. It’s vibrant and trendy but best of all, it’s a place you can kick back, bask in it’s luxury and feel at home.
The British Columbia based builder isn’t very well known around Chicago… yet. My bet is that is about to change. The look and feel of this 240-unit condo-like apartment residency is warm and welcoming. I’m pretty sure you’re going to fall in love with it just like I have.
Check Out the Outside
To really appreciate the outside of The Hudson, you first have to catch the energy surrounding it. With the Old Catalogue House (now Groupon) and other notorious high-tech hotspots nearby, the vibes are through the roof.
The 25-story glass and painted concrete mid-rise fits right into the River North neighborhood, similar to the old Montgomery Ward structure and nearby buildings.

Getting Around in River North
When ya gotta go, ya gotta go. Whether you’re catching a ride to work, to go shopping or just for the fun of it, you’ll be pleased to know that getting around is a breeze at The Hudson.
Hop on the CTA Brown-Line or Purple-Line, just a four minute walk down to Chicago and Franklin. The Red-Line is about 12 minutes away. CTA Chicago Bus Route #66 is easily accessible and so is the entrance to I-90/94 at Ontario.
You’ll Love the Neighborhood Around the Hudson
When you need to grab groceries, Whole Foods and Trader Joe’s are just a 15 minute walk away.
And there’s the park! Seward Park was built in the early 1900’s and offers Friday night jazz in the summer and indoor-outdoor soccer year-round. Take a boxing class, watch a baseball game or chill by the tranquil water fountain. Be sure to check out the awesome line-up of concerts and events. It’s even a great place to watch the air and water show.
The Franklin Room
The Franklin Room is more than a meal, it’s an experience. If you’re up for a proper taste of the good ole days, get ready for a real treat.
Right down the road from the Hudson in River North, this neighborhood tavern and speakeasy (in the basement) adds a cultural atmosphere to absolutely out-of-this world delicious dining.
You’ll find plenty of specials at both from the meal and drink menu. The week kicks off with Wine Down Mondays featuring $15 carafes of wine. Sundays from 5pm to 10pm you’ll find $1 shots of whiskey.
If you’re into whiskey, be sure to grab a high-end bottle while you’re at The Franklin Room. You can even take it home to stock your personal bar.
And, if you’re hungry, lamb, prime rib and venison chops are just a few meaty morsels on the menu. Shellfish, sandwiches and salads are other yummy options.
Great Place to Have A Drink Near The Hudson
Green Door Tavern
There’s something nostalgic about having a brew at Green Door Tavern, the oldest tavern in the city of Chicago. The building was built in 1872 and was originally a store with living quarters. Then it was turned into a speakeasy at which time the door was painted green as that was a cryptic code for a drinking establishment during the prohibition period.
Today, the Green Door Tavern is home to some of the best beer in town and a darn good bite to eat. On the weekend, stop by for an unbelievably delicious brunch or grab some takeout food if you’re in a hurry.
The Drifter
Shhh…this one is top secret. The Drifter is a secret hideaway bar tucked in the basement underneath the Green Door Tavern. It’s in the actual spot where the original speakeasy was during prohibition.
Just as you might expect, it’s small and dimly lit. Authentic relics add to the nostalgic air. The cocktails are well-made and the bartenders are dressed in clothes that reflect the era. You even have to knock to get in.
The cocktail list is creative and fun. The revolving cocktail menu is on tarot cards, if that tells you anything.
If you get there at the right time, you might catch a juggling act or a burlesque dance. Belly dancers and other whimsical performers have also been known to take the stage.
